Ty's Story...

Bill decided that he wanted to get a dog for his 40th  Birthday.  We had both grown up around animals as kids; Bill with horses, rabbits, dogs, cats, a cow, goats and chickens; Jim with numerous cats and a dog.  We had never had a dog of our own, just cats, and Jim didn’t even want to take on a dog.  The decision was made and Bill had his mind made up.  But just what breed of dog to get?  After considering several different breeds we decided we didn’t want a common breed that was seen everyday.  It had to be different!  Bill remembered as a kid that his uncle had owned a Chow Chow at one time.  He had fallen in love with this dog and always remembered how beautiful it was with it’s lion-like rough.  After considering several different breeds, it was a Chow that he decided he wanted.

After searching the Internet looking for a chow breeder near us, Bill found a black male puppy who was available and “looking for a home”.  After looking at his picture that was posted, tears came to both our eyes. He did not look like most normal puppy dogs; he only had one eye!  Bill knew then that he had to have this dog.  He told Jim  “This dog needs us”.  After calling to inquire about the dog it was learned that the dog was born pre-mature, had developed pneumonia and was hand feed with a baby bottle for his first few weeks.  That didn’t change Bill’s mind.  Of course Jim knew that Bill was not just going to go and look at this dog, he was going to bring him home.  Bill had found his special dog!

“Ty” won our hearts in record time, and as the months passed we felt that he was missing something.  He seemed so sad and lonely all alone our our deck where loved to hang.  That something was another dog as a friend and companion.  6 months later we found our “Anna”, a cream female chow to befriend “Ty”  (That’s another story).  “Ty” was our beginning into the Chow world.  Without him none of the others would have followed.  We affectionately refer to ”Ty” as our “special needs” dog and cannot imagine our lives without him in it.
